Halo komplexum - Complex Display

Tegnap, szeptember 1-én, a cirrus felhőkön igazi halo-show alakult ki.

Yesterday, on 1 September, the cirrus clouds produced a really nice display. It all started in the morning with a 22° halo and an upper tangent arc. Then for a while there was nothing in the sky, until the clouds started gathering again, right when I had to begin work. Alex called me twice, but I could not pick up the phone. I had the feeling that she was observing something beautiful, and could not wait to start watching the sky.

The best part had been gone by the time I finished work. Alex took great photos of a full parhelic circle and a Parry arc that was visible for 40 minutes. Luckily, halos remained in the sky for a long time even after this. Longer or shorter segments of the parhelic circle were observable for one more hour.

At about the time when the parhelic circle disappeared, the circumzenith arc showed up. The photos below are not modified, the colours were this vivid.

Közben kis időre hol az egyik, hol a másik 120°-os melléknap látszott.

Then for a while one or the other 120° parhelion appeared.

After the plate display, column crystals showed up. The 22° halo was still weak for some time, but the upper tangent arc got brighter and a supralateral arc appeared below the CZA. Alex was even luckier. About half an hour before she had photographed a 46° halo . The Sun was already below 27°, so the separation between the CZA and the arc became evident. Besides this, the weak upper tangent arc/strong 22° halo indicated that in her case it was a 46° halo and not a supralateral arc. At my place, the upper suncave Parry arc showed up around this time. It is well visible in the usm-ed and embossed images.

Majdnem naplementéig kitartott a halók egy része: a melléknapok, 22°-os halo, felső érintőív, zenitkörüli ív, és a felső oldalív.

The display lasted long. The parhelia, 22° halo, upper tangent arc, circumzenith arc and supralateral arc remained in the sky almost until sunset.
