27 March 2008 has become a red-letter-day in the Hungarian halo-calendar. At 12:30, a display started appearing in the sky. First the faint 22° halo formed with a lower tangent arc. In about half an hour, the upper tangent arc became visible, too - thus shaping a nice circumscribed halo.


At 13:30 the parhelia started shining, and as they got brighter and brighter, a growing stretch of the parhelic circle came to sight, both inside and outside the 22° halo.






In about a quarter of an hour, as the clouds were passing towards the east, the 120° parhelion showed up on the left. The phenomena lasted until 14:10 with the complete parhelic circle visible for about 5 minutes. The display, however, was far from having ended ...
