Tardos, Hungary - 15 March 2008.
A Gerecsében, a tardosi "vörösmárvány"-bányánál keresgéltünk ammonitesz maradványokat, mikor először feltűntek a melléknapok.
We were in the Gerecse mountains, looking for ammonites in the red "marble" of Tardos, when the parhelia started to appear. The first ones formed on contrails. I was collecting fossils in the middle of the steep rock-debris slope of the mine when the others shouted from the top. I had to make a quick decision which way to go, but unfortunatelly I could catch only the end of the display. The parhelion moved all along the contrail. Alex's photos show more.

Half an hour later, on the way to the car, we caught sight of another left-side parhelion as it was shining through the trees. It had formed on cirrus clouds. We immediatelly started running to get out of the forest in time. It was worth it. Even though the parhelion had begun fading, the other one on the right-hand side appeared soon, then parts of the 22° halo and a bright upper tangent arc, too.

The upper tangent arc and parts of the 22° halo. The Sun was well behind the mountain.
